It's definitely not easy to find a suitcase locally in stores. During a Black Friday sale in 1999, I purchased a 4-piece luggage set that lasted so many trips and airlines. When, one of the suitcases took its last breath during a layover 10 years later, I decided it was time for some new luggage. The suitcase I purchased at the layover (in a big name department store, for $$$) was broken at the final destination. Tsk. How could cheap Black Friday luggage last 10 years and hundreds of international trips, and one suitcase that cost twice the price of the entire cheap set last less than one flight???

I was deterred from purchasing new luggage for three years. Yes, I was that hurt.

Finally, in preparation for a huge trip requiring extensive pieces of luggage, I put my fears aside and went shopping for more. This time I went inquiring on the sole mission to invest in luggage that would look great, fit a lot of clothes, and last me as long as my previous Black Friday deal.

This Travelpro Platinum 7 Rolling Duffel is....awesome.

Looks: The photo does not do the Wine color any justice. It is a deep plum/wine/purple color. I would think it more feminine, but still a great unisex color tone. The trim is nice and shiny without being flashy. Very subdued, upscale look. All the straps and handles are wonderfully appointed--no stray buckles, or useless straps just hanging around.

Feel: Sturdy fabric and handles. The pull handle slides out easily and returns just as smoothly. Wheels are smooth, and zippers are strong and sturdy! The duffel is huge, but the size is efficiently spaced.

As stated in the description, there is plenty of space in both compartment. In the main compartment, I can fit clothes that I packed in a 28" suitcase, just to give a visual. Depending on clothes and sizes, I'm sure one would have enough space for a week's worth of clothes--different occasions each day. The drop-bottom portion is just icing on the cake. I have already fit three sets of clothes, including shoes/boots and two jackets in the bottom...and I'm sure I can fit more. Of course, the weight increases, so just be careful you don't go overboard packing your closet in there. It can fit, but you'll pay a ton of money at the airport.

The only regret I have about this suitcase is that I cannot put a protective case over it! I'm so afraid the airlines will damage it. But that's okay if they do since Travelpro has a great warranty...I hope I never have to use. :-)
